What if My Newborn Doesn’t Settle?
This is a question I get asked all the time and the answer is “Don’t worry – that’s my job!”
I have been photographing Newborns professionally in my studio for 9 years. During that time I have learnt a thing or two about settling and soothing Newborns!
1. The Studio
The first thing you’ll notice before you even walk through the door is how tranquil the setting of the studio is. Tucked up a little laneway on the outskirts of Greystones, in a quant cottage building with parking right outside. As soon as you arrive at the studio you will find yourself relaxing. When you enter the studio you’ll spot the comfy couch for mum and dad, the beautiful fabrics and props for baby and the toys available for older siblings to play with. There is tea, coffee, bottled water and snacks available and the room is kept lovely and warm to ensure baby is comfortable and settles easily.
2. Feeding Baby
A well fed baby is a happy and content baby. That’s why we always ask you to bring baby ready to feed. The reason for this is that we want baby to start their sleep cycle in the studio and not at home or in the car on the way to the studio. This means we get the optimum settled, sleepy time while baby has a full tummy.
3. Timing
We always try to schedule babies within the first 3 weeks. During this time newborns tend to be sleepier and retain that fresh newborn curl. After 21 days, newborns tend to develop things like colic and baby acne, they also tend to be more alert and stay awake longer. I will set your newborn session on a temporary date (usually your due date + 7-10 days). Once you have given birth, simply give me a call or a text and we will select and solidify a date for your newborn session within the first couple of weeks.
4. Years of Experience!
Finally and most importantly I have years of experience! During my time as a Newborn Photographer I have photographed hundreds of babies, and while every baby is unique I have developed skills and techniques in settling, calming and soothing fussy babies. During the first few minutes of handling your baby, I will begin to identify which of my techniques they like, and which soothe and calm them the best. You wouldn’t believe the number of parents that are amazed and quickly and easily their little ones settle when I am working with them. It’s no surprise that so many of my clients call meĀ The Baby Whisperer!
I look forward to welcoming you and your precious brand new baby into my studio soon!
